We are! This year’s Wilson County Fair is sure to be the biggest and best ever. This year’s theme is “Farmers, Boots, and Country Roots” and it will be all that and more.

From agriculture, art, baking, flowers, music, crafts, and dancing to quilting, rides, beauty pageants, talent contests, this is one of the top county fairs in America. 

An exciting feature of the Wilson County Fair is “The Great Giveaway,” where one lucky winner gets to choose from cars and other vehicles. Above, CedarStone Bank president Bob McDonald and Lebanon Branch Manager Melynda Bounds show off one of the prizes. CedarStone branches have tickets; for more information about tickets.

Again this year, CedarStone employees will be working the ticket booth and the Peyton Road “Green Gate,” where we will have an ATM for your cash needs throughout the fair.

A Cut Above

It has taken her eight years of growing and cutting, but Tina Winfree has now donated over 30 inches of her hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program.

Pantene Beautiful Lengths is an organization that provides the donated hair to HairUWear (wig maker) to make the wigs. The completed wigs are donated to the American Cancer Society to give to female cancer patients through the Look Good Feel Better program.

Tina, CedarStone Bank’s Senior Vice President, Cashier, and Operations Manager, is also active in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life each year. “Donating my hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths is something I choose to do to help someone in need that really doesn’t require a whole lot of effort,” explained Winfree.

The most recent “cutting” was held in May at New Image Salon in Lebanon. Stylist Mallory Bryan cut nearly a 12” section from Tina’s hair and sealed it up for shipment.

“I have cut hair for several customers donating to this organization and others like it but Mrs. Winfree is the first one I have cut that is a repeat contributor. I am honored she picked me to cut her hair,” Bryan added. For more information, please vist Pantene’s website. 

Local Favorite Scissormen at the Hip Donelson Farmers Market Tonight

Taking the CedarStone Bank stage tonight at the Hip Donelson Farmers Market is the guitar-blues band Scissormen. Frontman Ted Drozdowski has been on the American roots music scene for 30 years. He began writing about the music in the early 1980s, while living in Boston and received the Blues Foundation’s Keeping the Blues Alive Award for Journalism in 1998, among other honors. His work has appeared in Rolling Stone, Guitar World, Premiere Guitar, Musician and dozens of other publications. He has also consulted on film projects including 2000’s “Martin Scorsese Presents: The Blues” PBS-TV series. Come on out for an evening of “grit, guts, grooves and guitars” at the market.

John Bryan, VP Business Development, was recently honored by being selected for the Nashville Business Journal Impact Award for Wilson County. The award is given to people who are making positive change in their communities. 

In his role at the bank, John helps connect businesses with the right financial services and financing options. He is currently chairman of the board of the Lebanon-Wilson County Chamber of Commerce.

One of the great things about being a community bank is that our employees pitch in where they are needed and get to contribute their own skills and talents in a way that benefits the community. 

When Kayla Crowder joined CedarStone Bank as a teller at the Mt. Juliet Office, she didn’t know that she would soon be coordinating the bank’s social media activities. 

“What excites me is the opportunity to share the fun we have with our customers and friends while being active in the community,” said Kayla about her new role. “I enjoy being able to use my knowledge in social media to connect our customers to community events and to encourage involvement. My passion is that everyone who sees what CedarStone Bank proudly participates in will come to love our bank like I love them, like family.” 

Said CedarStone Bank president Bob McDonald, “We live in one of the best places in the country and are proud to be a part of so many things in the community. Kayla will help us to stay in closer touch with our customers and share with them in the things that are important to them. She’ll do a great job.”

Kayla graduated summa cum laude from Nashville State Community College with an associate degree in business administration. She attended Lebanon High School where she played basketball for four years. Recently engaged to her fiancé, Bryan, she is an active member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church, where she sings in the choir. 

“I hope everyone who uses social media will connect with CedarStone on Google+ and Facebook, because it’s a great way to connect with friends and neighbors, get to know your bankers, and even do some business networking,” Kayla continued. “People can subscribe to the blog on our website, too, and there are issues of our newsletter on the site, and a place to sign up for e-news.” For business, CedarStone Bank is also on LinkedIn.

William E. “Willie” McDonald Honored by the Tennessee Bankers Association

CedarStone Bank’s own Willie McDonald has been selected by the Tennessee Bankers Association for their Leadership in Banking Excellence award. Not only is it a tremendous honor, it is a permanent one; all of the honorees are displayed in the TBA headquarters building. This July, Willie began his 65th year in banking, a true milestone. He currently works on business development out of CedarStone Bank’s Donelson Office.

The Tennessee Bankers Association’s Leaders in Banking Excellence is a celebration of exceptional bankers throughout Tennessee’s history. It is an opportunity to honor those leaders who have helped shape the Tennessee banking industry and who have excelled in banking, community service, and civic involvement. Willie has, of course, excelled in all three of those areas over his long career in banking. In fact, he was nominated for the award not only by CedarStone but also by SunTrust.

Willie McDonald’s contributions to the community are almost too numerous to recount. Among his current commitments are: serving on the board of directors of McKendrees Village Foundation, McLeroy Foundation, the Donelson-Hermitage Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Two Rivers Mansion, American Cancer Society, and the Music City Center. He is also involved with the Nashville Hotel/Motel Association, Donelson Presbyterian Church, Boy Scouts of America, Easter Seal Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, and Project PENCIL at McGavock High School. Recognition for Willie’s community service include the Donelson-Hermitage Jaycees Outstanding Young Man of the Year; the Donelson-Hermitage Chamber of Commerce Business Man of the Year (twice) and their Lifetime Achievement Award. In January 2010, Willie was named honorary “Mayor of Donelson” by the Tennessee House of Representatives.

Willie will be formally recognized by the Leaders in Banking Excellence program at a special luncheon and ceremony on August 21. Please join us in congratulating him. For more information and a list of past Leaders in Banking Excellence honorees.
