Wilson County Honors Veterans

wilson-county-veterans-park-cedarstone-bank-lebanon-tn

Wilson County has formally dedicated a memorial to all those who serve, at the new Veterans Park next to the Wilson County courthouse in Lebanon. CedarStone's John Bryan, chairman of the board of the Lebanon-Wilson County Chamber of Commerce, was present at the dedication. "It's great to see the community coming together to honor the men and women who serve in the armed forces of this country," said Bryan. "Freedom comes at a price, and we need to do all we can to pay tribute to those who secure our nation."

The park, which was over two years in the making, features a granite wall with the names of those from the county who gave their lives in service to the country, its five parts representing the five branches of the military. Read more about the park at The Lebanon Democrat: click here.

Veterans Day 2014

The parade in Lebanon starts at 10:25 on Main Street, with a ceremony at the new Veterans Park at 11:00; click here for more information.

Mentors are changing lives.

Cedarstone Bank Supports Education

Continuing an education after high school can be a big challenge: it's expensive and some students have to work in addition to studying. The Tennessee Promise Scholarship program has partnered with TnAchieves to help local students with obtaining a secondary education. TnAchieves pairs first-generation, low-income college students with adult mentors to help those students enter the world of secondary education and successfully reach their goals.

Two CedarStone Bank managers will be mentoring TnAchieves students in 2015. Beth Schulze, manager of CedarStone’s Mt. Juliet branch, says, “Having a mentor could mean the difference between success and failure for some of these students.” Mentoring will help the students navigate the application and enrollment process and keep them on track during their first semester. Melynda Bounds, manager of the Lebanon branch, added, “I feel very fortunate to live in a state that offers students the opportunity to go to college.” For information, visit www.tnachieves.org.

Mike Cullison's Country Roots Showing at Hip Donelson Farmers Market

Appearing on the CedarStone Bank Stage at this week's Hip Donelson Farmers Market is Mike Cullison. An Oklahoma native who’s honed his songwriting skills with such royalty as Don Goodman (“Ol’ Red”; “Ring on Her Finger, Time on Her Hands”), Johnny Neel (the Allman Brothers) and Mike Stergis (Crosby, Stills & Nash), Cullison describes his style as “roadhouse blues and country roots-rock.” But his influences are as vast as the early rock ‘n’ roll his mom adored and the classic country his dad preferred; he draws deeply from that well, along with other Americana styles.

The entertainment line-up for the last two months of the Farmers Market includes:

8/29 Mike Cullison the Roadhouse Ramblers
9/5 Erica Bryan
9/12 Markey Blue
9/19 Chris Patterson
9/26 Cumberland Blue
10/3 Cara Being Blue
10/10 Hiptet

Police Explorers and Kiwanis Club Team up in Mt. Juliet

mt-juliet-kiwanis-cedarstone-bank-mt-juliet-tnKiwanis Club member Beth Schulze, Manager of the Mt. Juliet Office of CedarStone Bank, joins in the effort.

On July 29, the Kiwanis Club of Mt. Juliet joined forces with the Mt. Juliet Police Explorers to clean up the landscaping around the entry to the Mt. Juliet Middle School baseball field. The Kiwanis Club provided the landscaping material and the Police Explorers put in a lot of hard work planting flowers.

The Mt. Juliet Police Explorers are a group of 12 teenagers who are receiving an education about police work with real-life scenarios. They participate in city special events, ride-a-longs and community service work alongside actual Mt. Juliet Police Department officers. One goal of the Mt. Juliet Explorer Program is to give these teenagers an opportunity to be leaders in the community. The Kiwanis Club of Mt. Juliet is focused on improving thelives of children in the communities they serve, and they enjoyed this opportunity to assist the Explorers in their endeavors.

After working to beautify the community, the Kiwanis Club and the Police Explorers enjoyed lunch catered by Missy Johnson at Mirko Pasta at the new Mt. Juliet Police Headquarters. After lunch, Chief James Hambrick, also a Kiwanian, provided a tour of the new facility for all the participants.

Kat' Lee Jones On the Cedarstone Bank Stage August 8

Kat’ Lee Jones is a singer-songwriter from Belgium, now making her living in Nashville, and she'll be appearing on the CedarStone Bank stage at the Hip Donelson Farmers Market on Friday, August 8. Accompanied by her guitar , she brings her songs with a lot of compassion, emotion and strength.

Kat' Lee's music can best be described as a mixture of country and Americana, with a strong influence of traditional country. She discovered her knack for country a few years ago and immediately set off to write her own collection of songs that suit her and her voice best. Whether she plays an acoustic set in front of just a handful of listeners or a major stage in front of thousands, she always delivers a strong performance. You can find out more about Kat' and hear more of her music on her Facebook page.

A Cut Above

locks of tina emma

It has taken her eight years of growing and cutting, but Tina Winfree has now donated over 30 inches of her hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program.

Pantene Beautiful Lengths is an organization that provides the donated hair to HairUWear (wig maker) to make the wigs. The completed wigs are donated to the American Cancer Society to give to female cancer patients through the Look Good Feel Better program.

Tina, CedarStone Bank’s Senior Vice President, Cashier, and Operations Manager, is also active in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life each year. “Donating my hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths is something I choose to do to help someone in need that really doesn’t require a whole lot of effort,” explained Winfree.

The most recent “cutting” was held in May at New Image Salon in Lebanon. Stylist Mallory Bryan cut nearly a 12” section from Tina’s hair and sealed it up for shipment.

“I have cut hair for several customers donating to this organization and others like it but Mrs. Winfree is the first one I have cut that is a repeat contributor. I am honored she picked me to cut her hair,” Bryan added. For more information, please vist Pantene's website.
