Event Helped Area Seniors Dispose of Old Meds
4/7/2011
An event designed to help dispose of used or expired medications was held on Saturday, April 16 with CedarStone Bank Lebanon and Mt. Juliet offices serving as drop-off points for the unwanted medicines.
The event, catered to the senior adult population of Wilson County, was developed by Home Instead Senior Care. Home Instead franchise owner Maggie Julian explained, “The Mission Medicine program was designed as a way to help protect seniors from accidentally using expired medications as well as safeguarding them from the potential for theft of medications from their homes.”
“The project also helped protect the environment including pets and other animals by providing a safe way to dispose of prescription drugs before they are introduced into landfills or the water supply,” Julian added.
“We were excited about teaming up with Maggie and Home Instead Senior Care on this much needed community project. Our medicine cabinets were full of out-dated prescriptions and the potential for those drugs to be mistakenly taken is very likely. We were pleased with the turnout and are thankful to the Wilson County Sheriff Department for assisting us in collecting these meds,” commented Lisa Brown, Lebanon Office Manager of CedarStone Bank.
. The Leadership Wilson Class of 2011 has made Mission Medicine its class project. In this group is Lisa Brown of CedarStone Bank; John Rossmaier, Finance Director City of Mt. Juliet; Jennifer Whitener of McClain Christian Academy; Debbie Pruitt of Prospect; Mike Davis with Wilson County Schools; and Lisia Tucker of Aqua Bella. The event also was also supported by University Medical Center, Summit Medical Center, and Walgreens.
